The Remaining Ones: Memories That Stay Forever

This movie is a must-watch if you have a penchant to watch movies that have an unexpected plot. While we expect people to grieve when they have lost their loved ones, this movie is something different from what you expect. Peder is a man who attends his father’s funeral, but rather than honoring his father, he recollects memories that are not so great. Peder has had some traumatic experiences with his father in childhood because of which he has a dislike for his father, and this movie revolves around this plot.

While ordinary people will expect Peder to respect his father and honor him, things take a different turn when Peder returns home after a long time. He recollects every single memory and only has disdain for his father. While the older siblings are worldly wise and more mature and tries his best to make Peder understand societal norms, Peder is definitely different from the rest. The actor portraying the role of Peder does a remarkable job, and his character is convincing too. The actor portrays emotions through his eyes and other facial features, which makes the movie a must-watch. The credit does go to the director too, as he makes the character come alive by portraying the film to us in a rather convincing manner. All the actors, Aasmund Almdahl, Knut Morten Damm, Andreas Haaseth, and Ragnhild Gravem, have done a wonderful job, but definitely the credit does go out to the best man, and he is Filip Koren, who is all 28 years old and has written, directed, and co-produced the movie. At such a young age, the director has definitely done a marvelous job and visualized the movie beautifully.

Tord Kinge, who has played the lead role as Peder, does deserve a special mention as he has carried the movie on his shoulders and delivered an exceptional performance. The performance of Tord definitely stands out, and this makes the movie more likable. Tord is not only a brilliant actor because of his performance, but he intelligently has dealt with every scene and brought out the exact emotions that make his role look very convincing. Tord’s acting is very much watchable, and you would surely love his acting chops, as that’s what makes the movie a delight to watch.

If you are a movie buff and love to watch some great short films that’s immersive and engrossing enough, then this one is highly recommended. The wonderful acting and sound effects bring the movie to life and are definitely worth your time. What sets this movie apart from all others is the storyline that no one expected. Some scars are so deep enough that they refuse to leave your memory and come back to haunt you for days, years, and at times even a lifetime. The same thing happened with Peder, who cannot get over what he experienced at the hands of his father. People with traumatic childhoods and a bittersweet relationship with their parents would certainly connect with this movie.

The bond of a father and son is that of a friend and needs to be closely guarded. However, failing to do so can lead to a lifetime of trauma and memories that don’t make a loss feel like one. After his mother’s demise, Peder was directly under the governance of his father, and the incidents that followed deeply scared him as a child, and the memories haunted him even as he grew up. To get the real picture, you must watch this movie and give it your time. The direction, sound effects, and acting will surely leave you pleased, whereas the picturization of the movie is something that makes the experience truly a mesmerizing one.
