Movie : Through the Ages

Director : Merete Muenter

“Meeting your soulmate is like walking into a house you’ve been in before – you will recognize the furniture, the pictures on the wall, the books on the shelves, the contents of drawers: You could find your way around in the dark if you had to.”

― Jandy Nelson,

Love is complicated, there is surely no doubt. But traditionally, love has a much positive aspect. Humankind trusted in love and its powers. For them love was not just an emotion, it was a promise that stands the test of time. It is a promise of a whole eternity and beyond.

Merete Muenter’s short project “Through the Ages” talks about such a love – warm, delicate, innocent and eternal.

The music video depicts a story of two soulmates who lived their lives together, and with so much love. The music video begins with our protagonists as two kids. As the story progresses, we find them growing up together and eventually they fall in love and spend their lives together. The story spans 80 years of their lives and shows the true power of love.

“Through The Ages” is a music video depicting the essence of true love and the story is told in a form of dance. The dance is performed as a duet by two dancers who portray the couple in the story. It is a real heartfelt love story, spanning eighty years of life between this couple. The video was filmed in various locations in and around Central Park in New York City, and as the couple ages through the video, we see the changing colours of NYC too! The application of dance as a medium to express the passion and the emotion is commendable. The choreography is beautiful. The entire performance is so well coordinated and full of sincerity. Michael Callahan and Maria Cristina Posada Slye portray our protagonists. Their dance shows the sincerity and the sense of promise found in love. The videography has been done by Stephanie Lynne Mason who brilliantly captures every nuance of the setting and our characters. The song is performed by Rufus Wainwright.

To quote Merete, her movie “Through The Ages, is a love story that expresses a simple message: Appreciate every moment, because these moments may never happen again, and be grateful for what you have, when you have it.” Her movie definitely reminds one of the sweet moments of the first love and transports us down the memory lane.
